Spring cleaning doesn’t just have to include dusting the cobwebs, donating old clothes, scrubbing the floors and washing the windows. Why not use this time of the year as a chance to clean up your business as well? Your business environment can benefit from a little tidying up.
Shred some paper and de-clutter – Spring is a great time to review your files and get rid of the ones you no longer need. But don’t just toss old information in the trash. Old files should be placed into a locked container until they can be securely shredded and recycled.
Out with the old, in with the new – While most business owners agree that this is often a difficult task, letting go of records that are past their retention period is one of the most valuable business decisions you make. Keeping everything just to be safe can work against you, so once a record retention period has been met, properly destroy the file.
